The Problem: The Chinese Government

Shenhua Group is a company owned and controlled by the Chinese Government that aims to become the world's largest energy dealer by 2010.

The company has set its sights on taking control of the all aspects of the coal industry including electricity generation, transport, management and sales.

They are prepared to spend up to $US80 billion buying mines, power plants and ports to feed their country's growing demand for energy and has begun talks with Indonesia, Mongolia and the NSW Government.

The Solution

Don't hand over our electricity to big business.

The industry currently delivers billions of dollars in profits to the government to fund hospitals, schools and other public services and employs tens of thousands of workers across the state.

Steps must be taken now to secure NSW's energy future but privatising our power industry is not the way to go.

The State Government should instead upgrade its existing power stations to meet our short-term needs while taking urgent action to promote renewable energy.
